Community Art – Art Shack Chelmund’s Cross
The Art Shack is a community art studio and exhibition space adjoining the Three Trees Community Centre, at the heart of Chelmund’s Cross in Chelmsley Wood. Set-up in March 2016, it’s a 12 by 30 foot container left over from the refurbishment works at the community centre complete with a wood burning stove.
The Art Shack is managed by local artist and storyteller Ronnie Cashmore artist in residence at Three Trees. It hosts regular local community sessions, exhibitions and projects, unleashing local talent, supporting equality in creative expression and serving as a voice for the community. It is unique in exhibiting art from all sections of the community from those with learning disabilities through enthusiastic amateurs to professional artists.
Watch Ronnie transform a blank canvas in around 60 minutes, discussing techniques for different effects, breaking some of the rules in the process. This is a small, informal and friendly group (6-8 max per class) and you are very welcome to bring in your own work and discuss it with Ronnie if you want to. A second art demonstration class in drawing and cartoons is in the pipeline. Let Ronnie know if you are interested in trying either of these classes, or in seeing more contemporary and abstract approaches.
