Castle Bromwich Parish Councillor Passes Away Aged 62

The Parish Council is deeply saddened to announce the death of Councillor Brian Upton, on Friday, 15•h January 2016, after a recurring illness, aged 62.

Councillor Upton had been a valued and active member of this Council since he joined in October 2014, being re-elected in May 2015. During this time he was a well-respected member of the Finance and General Purposes Committee, serving for a short time as Chairman of the Committee, and was also recently appointed to the Staff Panel. He also served on various working parties to support the work of the Parish Council and made numerous suggestions for his fellow councillors to consider. Cllr Upton provided practical examples at meetings, often explained in an enthusiastic manner, leaving a legacy for the council and its staff to make progress on working more efficiently. Due to his experience in banking before he retired, Councillor Upton was a key instigator to help the council forge ahead with changing to internet banking.

Councillor Upton made a valuable contribution to life in his community, both in Castle Bromwich and the wider Midlands. He was an avid football fan, a supporter of Castle Bromwich Hall Gardens Trust and a volunteer puppy walker for Guide Dogs for the Blind. His knowledge of ‘environmental’ issues was gained by regular and extensive time walking miles with his dogs in local parks and open spaces -come rain or shine.

Councillor Upton will be sorely missed by his fellow members, officers and staff of the Parish Council and our sincere condolences go to his wife and two sons .
