New £10 million Bishop Wilson School Officially Opened

The new Bishop Wilson C of E Primary School which opened for pupils last September was officially opened on July 2 by the Right Reverend David Urquhart, the Bishop of Birmingham, and the Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Kate Wild.

The formal opening provided an opportunity for parents, local community, councillor and other VIPs to see the new school and grounds for the first time. Local celebrity chef and former pupil, Glynn Purnell was also on hand to judge a “Decorate a Cupcake” competition.

Other activities on the day included members of Bishop Wilson’s family unveiling a newly hung portrait of the Bishop; the Mayor burying a school time capsule and a family disco and picnic.  Bishop Wilson local radio interviewed many of the VIPs and broadcast throughout the morning and afternoon.

Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Kate Wild, said:  “The new Bishop Wilson School is a delight and I had a wonderful time meeting the pupils and staff.  The School is an important part of the development of Chelmund’s Cross and will hopefully give local children a brilliant start in life.  I am very excited about the opportunities the School can give its pupils and hope that they thoroughly enjoy their time here.”
