Ringers on film

In November last year a group of media students from Park Hall Academy made their first visit to Castle Bromwich church bell tower. It was the first visit of many. As part of their BTEC course they had been tasked with the job of making a video to promote the Bell Restoration Project of St Mary and St Margaret’s church in Castle Bromwich.

And it was not just during the school day that Kieran, Sam, Reiss and Cameron turned up to film the bellringers in action. They came to evening practices, to the Sunday morning service and even attended a wedding. They filmed in the church, in the tower and belfry, in the graveyard and at the Altar of Remembrance on Castle Bromwich Green. The lads even had a go at ringing the bells themselves – ‘Not as easy as it looks,’ said one of the team. The aim: to show every aspect of the bellringers’ involvement in the life of the parish.

Now, six months later, their work is almost complete and ready to pass to the BTEC examiner. But for a sneak preview, the video can be found on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cP3pWBSjLuA or search for ‘Castle Bromwich bells’.

‘The lads from Park Hall have shown a real commitment,’ said bellringer Bill Dargue, ‘and they’ve done us proud!’
