Castle Bromwich

Published on May 9th, 2015 | by Bill Dargue

Bellringers across the country will commemorate the 70th anniversary of Victory in Europe on Saturday 9th May. Along with thousands of other bellringers the Castle Bromwich team will ring at 11 am, while their next-door neighbours at Castle Bromwich Hall Gardens will be hosting a 1940s event.

Before 11 o’clock the bells will be rung in reverse rounds (lowest note to highest) which is traditionally used to warn of an enemy invasion. After 11, the bells will sound out in celebration. Other Birmingham towers also taking part include St Martin’s-in-the-Bull Ring, Boldmere, Coleshill, Edgbaston, Erdington, Hampton-in-Arden, Handsworth, Harborne, Knowle, Northfield, Lapworth, Polesworth, St Philip’s, St Paul’s in the Jewellery Quarter, Shirley, Smethwick, Solihull, Sutton Coldfield and Perry Barr. Quite a showing!
